What is Reverse Osmosis ?

Osmosis is a natural biological process.Pure water flows into a salt solution through a semi-permeable membrane which is permeable to water and almost non-permeable to dissolved ions or molecules. The salt solution becomes diluted with this flow of pure water.

By applying external pressure to the salt solution, the flow of pure water from salt solution across the membrane can be reversed and pure water is removed from salt solution. This is the process of Reverse Osmosis(R.O)
